Pershing Performance fulfils Promise

There’s no doubt that a Pershing Yacht is generally known for one thing, and that’s speed.  Consistently outclassing its rivals for sheer knots notched up, the Pershing is the boat of choice for thrill-seekers across the world.  But what it also boasts is an elegant Italian style and sophistication that turns heads as much at berth as it does at full chat – and what better example than the Pershing 80.

A pioneer in performance, despite its not insignificant length (24.5 metres, just over 80ft) and weight (63,100kg laden displacement) the Pershing 80 has a comfortable cruising speed of 40 knots and some acceleration left over to take her up to 50 knots topped out.  Compare that with the Sunseeker 80 Yacht which, at the same length and roughly the same weight, cruises at 24 knots before topping out at 28 to 30 knots, and you’ll see exactly what kind of performance we’re talking about with the Pershing 80.

Whilst 40 or 50 knots is generally associated with the kind of powerboat that would ruin your hairstyle as much as your conversation, the Pershing 80 is a big boat that slices through the waves maintaining such a level and comfortable ride that you barely notice the velocity – until you count the number of motor-yachts you’ve left jealously in your wake that is.  This impressive horsepower comes courtesy of MTU V16 diesel engines coupled to those all-important surface drives which give the Pershing 80 that raw speed.

Adrenaline aside, the Pershing 80 has the streamlined performance exterior profile expected from the range characterised by a deep V hull and a low profile hardtop with arched full-length windows sweeping gracefully to the rear.  Inside she is modern, minimalist, light and bright without compromising on luxury.  Warm oak vies with dark wenge flooring and cream fabrics set the tone throughout.  Accommodation-wise the Pershing 80 has the master suite amidships with large open able porthole, minibar and walk-in wardrobe, a forward VIP stateroom and two twin cabins sandwiched between.  All are en-suite except for the twins who share a bathroom – perhaps the Pershing 80’s only disappointment.

Upstairs there is a large modular saloon with separate dining area and slide-away glass partition that can join or separate it from the helming station and harmoniously seat endless guests on sofas, chaise longues and poufs designed by one of the world’s best known leather furniture manufacturers, Poltrona Frau.  A compact galley with Bosch appliances is separated by a flight of steps and also directly accessed from the crew cabins – of which there are two. The leather pilot house with three plush seats and dashboard detailing also designed by Poltrona Frau is a real gem.

Outside and aft there are three sofas upholstered in waterproof fabric, a cocktail cabinet with built-in sink, a modest dining table and barbecue.  In the bows a dinette and sun-lounging area can be combined with a bimini top to offer shade and privacy, especially when moored and special LED lighting creates beautiful shapes and atmosphere by night.  A wide teak swim platform and sizeable garage ready for tenders and toys complete with tilting ramp for launch are just a couple of extra bonus features on this Pershing 80.

Little wonder she won Most Innovative Boat Award in the Open Yacht Over 24m category of the World Yacht Trophies which are announced each year at the Cannes Boat Show.
